Leucocyte elastase activity in meningococcal septicaemia associated coagulopathy.

چکیده
The concentration of the elastase-alpha 1 proteinase inhibitor complex (E-alpha 1 PI) in a meningococcal infection in an index case with severe changes in haemostasis was measured. The concentration of the E-alpha 1 PI complex was increased throughout the duration of the illness, although concentrations of the blood clotting factors were severely decreased. The release of polymorphonuclear elastase activity may contribute to the depletion in clotting factors.

Circulating human leucocyte elastase in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
The plasma concentration of human leucocyte elastase (HLE), measured by enzyme immunoassay as the complex with alpha 1-proteinase inhibitor, was determined in 94 patients with active and inactive inflammatory bowel disease. In Crohn's disease and in ulcerative colitis human leucocyte elastase levels were raised significantly above normal when the disease was active, and fell on remission. The m...

To determine the case fatality rate and risk factors for death in children with invasive meningococcal infection, 163 children admitted with meningococcal disease to the Instituto Materno Infantil de Pernambuco, a tertiary paediatric teaching hospital in Recife, Brazil, were included in this retrospective cohort study. Cases were categorised as meningitis, septicaemia and septicaemia with menin...
متن کاملSteroid-responsive vasculitis and arthritis in meningococcal septicaemia.
Introduction Meningococcal infection may present as meningitis or as acute-fulminating, subacute or chronic sepicaemia. There may be associated arthritis, vasculitis, episcleritis and intravascular coagulation (Whittle et al., 1973). Such complications which usually occur between 3 and 10 days from the onset of the illness, when patients are otherwise improving, have been attributed to immune c...

Hunter, J. (1973). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 48, 233. Heparin therapy in meningococcal septicaemia. Two cases of meningococcaemia with bad prognostic signs are presented. In one child a state of disseminated intravascular coagulation and defibrinogenation was established. Heparin therapy was used early and successfully in both cases, supporting the value of early anticoagulation in the ...
